Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) announced she will be voting for presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden, however, she will not be endorsing the candidate. In an interview with VICE TV, Ocasio-Cortez said she believes the former vice president has the potential to win but is uncertain if he can bring deeper structural changes to the country.
REP. ALEXANDRIA OCASIO-CORTEZ (D-NY): I think our institutions of democracy are absolutely under siege at every single level. And we are moving away from democracy in the United States, we’re moving towards authoritarianism. If the question is, can Biden win? I think Biden has the potential to win a general election. Whether he can offer deeper structural changes that get us to a healthier place, I don’t necessarily know if he’s going to move us forward, but I think people can see him as stopping the bleeding… I personally draw a distinction between endorsement, endorsing a candidate and voting for them. I have not yet endorsed Vice President Biden, but I will be voting for him in November.
