CNN: Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson got into a testy exchange with a Democratic lawmaker who pressed him on the department’s position on access to homeless shelters for transgender people, with the lawmaker appearing to accuse the secretary of enabling discrimination at facilities. “The reason that I said you probably wouldn’t like because from what you said in the past you don’t agree with my statement that everybody gets equal rights but nobody gets extra rights,” Carson said at a House hearing. “You get special rights in non-discrimination,” Quigley replied. “What I’m saying is we’ve got to take everybody’s feelings into consideration. You can’t just select a group and say their feelings trump everyone else’s feelings,” Carson later said.
