President Donald Trump decried “revisionist history” pushed by the left at his White House press conference on Monday, saying efforts by the Washington D.C. city council to remove or alter things like the Washington Monument or Jefferson Memorial are “the big stuff” and “never going to happen with me.” Trump also spoke out against the New York Times’ “1619 Project” which seeks to establish the date the first slaves were brought to Virginia as the real founding date of America over 1776. “No. We don’t do that,” Trump said. “Never going to happen with me.” “I want people to know everything they can about our history. I am not a believer in cancel culture. If you don’t study the bad, it could happen again. I want it studied very, very carefully and studied accurately,” Trump said. “But we grew up with a certain history, and now they are trying to change our history. Revisionist history.”
PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: You sound so clear as opposed to everyone else where they refuse [to remove their mask to ask a question]. REPORTER: Why do you object to 1619 being taught in schools, and do you object to slavery being taught in schools? TRUMP: No, I want people to know everything they can about our history. I am not a believer in cancel culture. If you don’t study the bad, it could happen again. I want it studied very, very carefully and studied accurately. But we grew up with a certain history and now they are trying to change our history. Revisionist history. That’s why they want to take down our monuments, take down our statues. I saw something the other day which was absolutely horrendous — the Washington Monument, they want to rename it the D.C. Committee, but the D.C. Committee is all Democrats. Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson, I mean, we are talking about this is the big stuff now. This is the big stuff, and they want to rename it? They want to redesignate it? They want to take some down? No. We don’t do that. Never going to happen with me. I want to thank you all and wish you a very happy Labor Day and we are having tremendous success whether it’s on the vaccines, whether it’s on the pandemic, the plague that came in from China that China never should have let happen because I will never feel the same about China and I want to wish you a happy labor day.
